Heating Element Installation Guidance

General installation guidance for SiC and MoSi2 heating elements, including handling, support, terminal connections, clearance and commissioning.

Before Installation

  • Confirm the element type, dimensions, resistance group, installation position and electrical connection against the approved drawing. Inspect each element for transport damage. Handle heating elements carefully and keep them dry and clean.
  • Check that furnace-wall openings, ceramic tubes, holders and support points are correctly aligned. Elements must not be forced into misaligned holes or subjected to bending, twisting or impact.

Mechanical Installation

  • Provide adequate clearance for thermal expansion. The heated section must not contact furnace insulation, refractory parts, products or protective structures unless the installation has been specifically designed for that contact.
  • Support arrangements must match the element geometry and installation direction. Multi-leg, bent and special-shaped elements require particular care so that bridges and legs do not carry unintended mechanical loads.
  • If a protective cover is required, it should normally be independently supported, ventilated and sufficiently oversized. It must not clamp the element or restrict expansion.

Electrical Connections

  • Use correctly sized terminal straps, clamps and connection hardware. Connections should be secure but must not introduce damaging mechanical stress. Recheck terminal tightness after the initial heating cycles when the installation design requires it.
  • Verify the circuit arrangement, transformer taps, voltage, current and power-control method before energizing. Do not mix elements with significantly different resistance values in one uncontrolled group.

Commissioning Note

  • Initial heating should follow the furnace manufacturer's procedure. Monitor current, voltage, temperature uniformity, terminal condition and abnormal hot spots. This page provides general guidance only; the approved element drawing and furnace-specific instructions take priority.
